111. Gah!

Sorry I have fallen so far behind and am doing that annoying thing where I post three entries in one day. School started back up and I have been really distracted with that and with work (new job – I’m working at Five Guys now!), but hopefully I can budget the time a little better from here on out!

Moving right along.

I am friends with the American Shakespeare Center on Facebook, and they recently posted an excellent list of 39 rules for good writing. I am an English major, so I am bombarded by (and often break) variations of these rules all the time. It is still incredibly helpful to have them all in one place, though! Check out the list to help yourself out on your next essay!

I am the first to admit that I break several of these rules regularly. Most often, the one about “cute” titles. While I don’t often go the “jerk” route with my titles and essays, I do try to at least occasionally inject humor or wit – for the teacher’s sake.  Nothing overboard, and never off-topic.  And more often than not, it really pays off. I have had several teachers say they enjoyed my writing because of the occasional light joke here and there. Then again, I have had a couple say they didn’t appreciate it. Teachers out there, what is your stance?
