365 Days of Shakespeare

That's right – the Bard in a year.

183. Sonnets as plot

Darn all the luck, someone stole my idea.

For a while, I have wanted to somehow adapt Shakespeare’s sonnets into a play. Someone already did it. This two-actor production has taken sonnets and created a story – or perhaps “series of motifs” is more accurate? – that ties selected poems together.

Personally, I love this idea. It’s not as though the sonnets are often performed in a theatrical way, after all. More often they are used in formal readings, without interpretation. I would love to see how this works on the stage!
