We all know that Shakespeare has borrowed many of his ideas and characters from real life. We associate this practice mostly with the histories, since those are based on easily-researched historical figures that most of us hear about in school: King John, Henry VIII, etc. But did you know that Macbeth is loosely based on a real person?

That’s right. Macbeth was a real, live man once upon a time. Now, Shakespeare took quite a few liberties with the legend, but the man himself had a pretty interesting life all on his own.
